MGT385 – Aviation Insurance Final Project
Over the course of the semester you have learned about the history of aviation insurance, how insurance works, the types of risks aviation operations face and the types of insurance coverage they can buy to protect them. You have also learned about how to buy insurance and who to buy it from. Lastly you have also learned methods of handling and assessing risk outside of purely purchasing insurance that can help protect your business.
For this final project there will be four sections representing four different businesses that you will be the President of. 1) New York Metropolitan Airport 2) Long Island Jet Charter Company 3) ABC Jet Maintenance and 4) XYZ Propeller Manufacturing Company
For each of these four companies you will need to answer the following questions:
What are the three biggest risks facing this company?
Can you buy insurance for all of these risks, use another method of protection or both?
Discuss the types of insurance you would buy to protect the company
Identify what property the company will need to protect with insurance
Identify at least two scenarios where this company could be held liable (after a lawsuit) and made to pay damages

Students who take this course typically are planning to enter the field of aviat

Students who take this course typically are planning to enter the field of aviation once they graduate. To better prepare them for those fields, WMU has established AVS 3040 Aviation Safety and Security as a required course for aviation degrees. Obviously, as the course title indicates, this class focuses on the safety and security aspect of the aviation industry. But how does that tie into your future career choices?
This Final Project Paper requires you to gather applicable information from the weekly assignments and other sources throughout the semester. As a hint, you will particularly find helpful information from the paper on training/certifications and knowledge of Code of Federal Air Regulations.
This paper must be done in APA format and be a minimum of seven pages long, not counting the Title Page, Abstract or Reference pages. This paper needs to be written in paragraph format, not just bullet points or items which are numbered.
For your final project paper, you will be mapping your future. To start, I want you to find a job posting for an entry level airport position you are interested in. Then find someone to interview that you know who currently holds or previously held this position.
Things that need to be incorporated in this section include but are not limited to:
Who you interviewed along with their contact information
Explain the position description and requirements.
Explain what you would be doing on a typical day.
Explain how you would go about obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities to qualify and perform these responsibilities.
Explain the safety role this position holds towards protecting passengers, coworkers and civilians.
Next, locate a job posting for an airport position you are interested in advancing to. Then find someone to interview that you know who currently holds or previously held this position.

Explain the safety role this position holds towards protecting passengers, coworkers and civilians.
Lastly, at this point you should now have a better understanding of how safety and security go hand and hand with your future careers. Explain why you think safety plays such a vital role in this industry and how this course has better prepared you for your chosen career path.

Describe what animal & plant life you will bring with you and why.

You have been so great in class that your teacher has arranged to send you to your own private island. The only catch is that your teacher’s boat is so big that it takes ten years to fuel up. So you will be on the island all by yourself for 10 years. The island is covered with vegetation; however, there is no animal life. The soil is good for farming and the region has warm temperatures with a high rate of annual rainfall. Describe what animal & plant life you will bring with you and why. Your Teacher, being the generous person she is, also gives you $20,000 to upgrade the island to make it livable. You must tell what you will bring/do to the island so you can live there and why. Please account for your money as best as possible.
