This discussion forum is about Chapter 1 in your main textbook, “Cultural Anthropology: A Toolkit for a Global Age,” the Prezi, “This is Anthropology,” and the case study “Body Ritual of the Nacirema” by Horace Miner.
NB: You must respond to 2 other students’ posts in your group for full credit. You have until 48 hrs after the due date to respond to other posts.
Please answer the following questions. Each answer should be at least 1 paragraph in length.
1. Define the main 4 subfields of anthropology and give an example for each field of a sample topic that would be studied and 1 way in which that field of study could be applied to solve a real-world problem. From the Prezi slideshow, “This is Anthropology,” give 2 examples of current work being done by USF anthropologists and students that interested you (explain the work they are doing and what it is about).
2. Describe 3 rituals practiced by the Nacirema in Miner’s article. Based on Miner’s description of the Nacirema culture, what values are important to people in this society? How does this compare to your own experience in your society?
3. What are the four “images of thought” described by Deleuze in the “English Preface” reading of Difference and Repetition?
4. Explain the main point of the video on “movement.” Do you think this is helpful for understanding the world? How do you think you could apply this to everyday life (e.g., thinking about other classes you’ve taken)?
5. Briefly describe a significant cross-cultural experience you have had, either in traveling or in other interaction with a culture or sub-culture other than your own. What were some of the unwritten social rules you became aware of as a result of this experience, either in the other culture or in your own?

In this module you are introduced to the tension in anthropology and the social sciences between the material and the symbolc, biology and culture, or “nature versus nurture.” As both social persons and biological organism humans approach food in both the materially and the symbolically. Social scientists differ in their approaches to how much of what makes us human is materailly determined (material determinists) and how much is symbolically determined.
For this discussion I want you to reflect on how much you feel what you eat, or consider food, is determined by material and biological conditions and how much of what you consider food and consume as food is determined by culture. Which do you feel is the overriding deteminer for your food consumption? Do you feel that your case reflects that of the majority of Americans? What could be the reasons for this being or not being the case? Please give examples to back up your responses.
I need a discussion with no plagiarism and no paraphrasing. All own words. Also attached two students discussion that I need replies too.
